ABOUT US

Keep Islip Clean was founded in 1989 as a certified affiliate of the national organization, Keep America Beautiful. Our mission is to enhance every hamlet within the Town of Islip through litter cleanup, beautification, recycling and education. We accomplish this with the good, selfless work of Volunteers, who take action to improve the beauty of our shared communities and health of the environment.

KIC has programs and activities for every Volunteer: Adopt-A-Highway/Adopt-A-Spot, Great American Cleanup, International Coastal Cleanup, Project Bloom, Community Garden Vegetable Plots, a Commissioners Board,Junior Commissioner Program, an educator's "Waste in Place" Curriculum designed for grade school students, recycling drives, seasonal community cleanups, beautification initiatives, recycling drives, educational presentations...and more!

KIC is supported by Commissioners, who are Volunteers from each of Islip's hamlets. They represent their hometown to KIC, exchange ideas on how to best accomplish KIC's objectives and bring solutions back to their communities. Every Commissioner and the thousands of people who work on KIC initiatives every year are Volunteers. The only salaried person is the Executive Director.

KIC holds public meetings on the third Thursday of every month. Our Events Page includes more information, along with a listing of current events.

None of our objectives could be met without our dedicated Volunteers, who are the foundation of KIC. We all work together to create clean, green communities!
